The Trust actively seeks real, paid job placements for people with an intellectual disability. As this is not something we are funded to provide, it is up to all staff to keep their ears open for job opportunities for all the people we support.

We will, if at all possible, provide support (with the amount being dependent on need) as required in the initial stages, for the employer and the employee (the person we are supporting). The support required is assessed and adjusted as progress towards independence in the workplace is made.

Work training programme
We also provide a weekday work training programme. The programme involves year-round work and training opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.

Participants of the programme are currently working/training from 8:30am-3:30pm (essentially a "normal" working day) and are developing solid work ethics. An integral aspect of the programme is that new participants are paid for each day they attend the programme while they are assessed for their individual skills in certain areas. When they have been assessed as 80% competent in the relevant areas the Trust will employ them in this programme. They will be paid an hourly rate and will sign an employment agreement with the normal terms and conditions of any employer, employee relationship.

The assessments will occur every 3 months and participants can enter the employment relationship at any of these points. If after 12 months of training the person we are supporting is unable to meet the 80% competence criteria, we will work with them, WINZ or Workbridge to access a subsidy that may support them into paid employment.
