Training and Career Pathways

CCT is committed to providing a high level of professional development to its entire staff as it believes that the people it supports have the right to be supported by well trained professional staff.

CCT has its own internal competency based training (CBT) package to teach its staff the necessary skills.

Because of this, experience in the field of development / intellectual disability is not essential for prospective new staff, however a positive attitude is.

Internal Training Pathway

There are three (3) levels of training available within CCT. The first level is based on the Institute for Applied Behaviour Analysis (ISBA) Competency Based Training (CBT). The second was also developed from this to provide senior support worker training and the third level is available to staff who are training to complete the competency requirements to be a Behaviour Specialist - an approx two year internship.

  • All staff, no matter their position, are required to attend a three day orientation course and complete the Level One CBT training within six (6) months of being employed.
  • The 12 month Level Two CBT program is intended for staff who are interested from moving from a support worker to a key worker role and covers program development and implementation. Entry into the program is by application and mutual support.
  • Level Three is a two to three year internship that is based on advanced assessment and programming. Vacancies are advertised and selection is through interviews, role plays and written exercises.

Staff Support System

CCT also has an employment obligation to provide supervision for all staff, the opportunity to attend specialist training seminars or conferences and In-service training sessions. External training is also supported by the organisation, providing CCT and the people it supports will see some benefit from the increased learning.

We have a specialist team who can provide support and mentoring to staff in challenging situations which includes training, mentoring for staff, counseling and 1:1 professional supervision for people who need specialist support.
