Community Care Trust Specialist Team

This team provides specialist services to both the people we support and the staff of the CCT. The team is comprised of:

  • Specialist Service Manager
  • RIDSAS Manager
  • Behaviour Specialists
  • Intern Behaviour Specialists
  • Specialist Group Keyworkers
  • Health Educator

Behaviour Specialists and Interns provide individualised assessment and programmes, staff training, professional supervision and back up for the Crisis Response (a 24 hour backup service) team.

What does each team member do?

The Specialist Service Manager provides professional leadership of the Specialist team and ensures that an ethical, evidence based practice underpins all the activities of the team.

The RIDSAS Manager has a legal obligation to support and oversee people subject to the Intellectual Disability Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation (IDCCR) Act 2003. This includes the writing of, implementation and overseeing of Care Plans.

Under the IDCCR Act, he is responsible for managing the support, risk, development of Care responsibilities and management of Care Plans for each individual under the Act.

The Behaviour Specialists ensure that people supported by the CCT receive the highest quality of service in line with the NZ Disbability Strategy . They ensure that all programmes and support are non-aversive and have clear and measurable outcomes and that they are professionally implemented by staff in accordance with current best practice. They are members of the Crisis Response team and in addition to their specialist tasks, have responsibility around training, risk management and ensuring that best practice is adhered to.

The Intern Behaviour Specialists are engaged in undertaking the CCT Level 3 Behaviour Specialist training. They carry out the duties of a Behaviour Specialist under supervision and as they complete the agreed competencies have an increasing range of autonomy and sign off authority.

The Specialist Group Key Worker can provide information, and assistance to coordinate any accommodation changes indentified by either the people receiving support or the support team. They work closely with the RIDSAS Manager to ensure all aspects of Care Plans have been implemented and followed.

The Health Educator is responsible for the planning, implementing and monitoring of individual Healthy Lifestyle Programmes. This may consist of various recreational activities, one-on-one support with nutrition, meal planning, weight-loss and exercise programmes.

Our Approach

Our strength is in the positive support and outcomes we maintain which allows us to support people with very complex needs to achieve their goals. This has been achieved by the in-house specialist team being proactive rather than reactive and crisis focused. We work using a Multi-element model approach.

Due to the proactive nature of the specialist support we have less crisis than would have occurred under the reactive behaviour support model used in many parts of New Zealand.
